Stile Antico completes Victoria Tenebrae recording
19 February, 2017
Stile Antico has just finished recording its twelfth project for Harmonia Mundi. For this disc, the group turned to one of the greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance: the Tenebrae Responsories by Tomás Luis de Victoria, written for performance during the solemn Holy Week liturgy.
Over three days at their favourite recording venue, the church of All Hallows, Gospel Oak, the group recorded these sublime settings alongside Spanish plainchant and a concluding Passiontide motet, also by Victoria. In the ‘box’ were Robina G. Young and Brad Michel, the producer and engineer responsible for all Stile Antico’s recordings to date. The disc is expected to be released early in 2018.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at Stile Antico during the sessions.
