Irish Daily Mail enjoys Palestrina

All my choices this year are life-enhan­cing, but this one hits the heights of exal­ta­tion with some of Palestrina’s most inspired music. Stile Antico – just 12 sing­ers includ­ing twins Helen and Kate Ashby and their sis­ter Emma – inter­leave six superb Palestrina choral pieces with sec­tions of his best-known work. Gio­vanni Pier­luigi da Palestrina’s life took up roughly three-quar­ters of the 16th cen­tury and he became a byword for per­fect poly­phony, espe­cially in the Missa Papae Mar­celli. Stile Antico rehearse and per­form without a con­ductor and this beau­ti­ful CD seems the per­fect way to cel­eb­rate both their 20th anniversary and Palestrina’s quin­centen­ary.
