Stile Antico offered a true masterclass in polyphonic interpretation… perfect intonation, exquisite blend, refined phrasing, and a profoundly humanistic understanding of the text…

Perhaps the highest and most consistent level of interpretation this year was achieved by the twelve singers of Stile Antico at the festival’s conclusion.

ALL my choices this year are life-enhan­cing, but this one hits the heights of exal­ta­tion with some of Palestrina’s most inspired music… this beau­ti­ful CD seems the per­fect way to cel­eb­rate both Stile Antico’s 20th anniversary and Palestrina’s quin­centen­ary.

Stile Antico caressed the counterpoint into a smooth ribbon of precisely phrased sound, showing an almost telepathic rapport as the singers made eye contact.

Undoubtedly Beverley Minster suited the singers down to the ground: they were on top form… the music positively gleamed.

Wonderfully nuanced singing… near-telepathic understanding that comes from years of collaboration without that controlling figure in the middle.

Stile Antico specialises in music of the 16th century… sung with rich-hued warmth in the vocal sound, animation and vigour in the rhythms and an almost superhuman responsiveness between the singers.

The group treads the fine line of ‘historically informed performance’ perfectly, mingling a consummate understanding of the practice of the period with an attractive regard for the modern listener’s need for the drama of music written since.
