Regensburg return praised

Juan Martin Koch, nmz.de (27 May, 2026)

Perhaps the highest and most consistent level of interpretation this year was achieved by the twelve singers of Stile Antico at the festival’s conclusion. The clarity, warmth, and brilliance with which they presented Renaissance polyphony is considered a gold standard, not only among British vocal ensembles. While the program ‘Polyphonic Postcards’ may not have been especially logical from a musicological perspective, this theme, under the auspices of historically important European cities, resulted in a selection of works (including pieces by Tallis, Janequin, Guerrero, Lasso, Palestrina, Cardoso, and Monteverdi) that was as wonderfully diverse as the festival itself.
