The year is 1611, and away from the intrigues of court, William Byrd rehearses a choir in his patron’s house at Ingatestone, Essex. Byrd reflects on life, music, marriage and his religion. His thoughts are punctuated by his own choral music, as we watch him struggling to understand the mystery that is his own music and what lies at its heart.
