Podcast launched to introduce ‘Sacred or Profane?’
Stile Antico’s latest programme Sacred or Profane? will receive its first performance next week at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Square, London. To introduce the new programme, the group has created a podcast explaining the ideas behind the choice of music, and featuring recordings of Stile Antico singing in rehearsal.
Sacred or Profane? explores the way that composers often turned secular music – folk-songs, chansons and madrigals, some of them decidedly earthy in character – into religious pieces, far removed from the spirit of the originals. Stile Antico will perform both the secular works and their sacred counterparts, offering a fascinating and unexpected window onto the way that music was perceived in the Renaissance period.
