New baritone member announced
We are delighted to announce the appointment of baritone Gareth Thomas to join Stile Antico!
Gareth was a choral scholar at Jesus College, Cambridge, studying Music. Alongside performing regularly with groups such as the BBC Singers and Tenebrae, he is a member of the choir of HM Chapel Royal Tower of London. He is also an experienced editor of Renaissance polyphony, and the group has already used a number of his wonderful editions. For more information, visit www.gareththomasmusic.co.uk.
Gareth says “I am utterly delighted to be joining Stile Antico. Early Music has long been my passion – both performing and researching – and to have the opportunity to work with such a wonderful ensemble of like-minded musicians is an enormous privilege – I feel like I’ve found my dream job! I’ve had some brilliant musical experiences so far with the group and I’m looking forward to many more adventures ahead!”
Gareth replaces Will Dawes, who left the group in Summer 2023, after sixteen years. Will says “I’m delighted to hear of Gareth’s appointment. His love of music making (both of the practical, and editorial versions) is a perfect match for the care that Stile takes with the rehearsing and performing of early music. I’m delighted to be coming back as a dep with the group a few times this year, fitting in with things at Somerville, and hope to continue to be of use to the group into the future. I’m also delighted that Stile continues to have a former Chorister of St George’s Windsor as their Baritone!”
