Byrd on Decca Classics

We’re very happy to announce the upcoming release of our second album on Decca Classics, which marks 400 years since the death of one of our favourite composers, William Byrd.

Our programme focuses on the music of Byrd’s final years, written for the clandestine Catholic services of his Essex patron, including his timeless Mass for Four Voices and his exuberant Propers for the Feast of the Assumption. We also perform several of his “sacred songs” in both English and Latin, and his mighty Tribue Domine, a homage to the music of an older generation of composers.

This album is dedicated to the memory of David Trendell, who was a teacher and friend to several members of the group, and whose wonderful performances of Byrd have a legacy in our own approach to this remarkable music.

The first single from the new album – the Agnus Dei from the Mass for Four Voices – is now available to stream on major platforms.

The entire album will be released on 13th January 2023, but we are now accepting pre-orders for physical discs for customers with addresses in the UK. These orders will be fulfilled in January to coincide with the release date.
