Music Summer School and Festival
Gresham’s School, Holt, United Kingdom
Stile Antico is delighted to be part of this new Summer School at beautiful Gresham’s School in Norfolk.
The group will teach two courses:
Vocal Ensembles
A course designed to improve ensemble singing skills. Participants will be divided into small groups, normally with just one or two voices per part, and will explore a wealth of 16th and early 17th century gems journeying through themes of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, inspired by Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’. The repertoire will range from sacred motets by composers such as Palestrina and Byrd to upbeat madrigals by the likes of Dowland and Thomas Campion. Participants will work on ensemble skills, vocal technique, and listening, while exploring some lesser-known gems of the Renaissance.
Sing with Stile
Singing alongside members of Stile Antico, participants on this course will explore some of the wonderful verse anthems and motets written by Henry Purcell and his contemporaries in late seventeenth century London. Singers will have the chance to work on a wide range of pieces as well as focussing on stylistic interpretation, led each day by a different member of Stile Antico. The course aims to build general confidence in choral singing, as well as working on more specific vocal and choral skills. Participants will be introduced to a feast of wonderful early Baroque English music in a relaxed and supportive environment.
