Ensemble Development Bursary 2026-28

Starting in September 2026, Stile Antico will be offering a bursary of up to £2,000 for an early music ensemble at the start of their professional career. As well as the financial bursary, the recipients will be offered extensive coaching and mentoring with members of Stile Antico, over a two-year period.

The bursary is aimed at early music ensembles, ideally unconducted, or at least with an interest in developing their collaborative music-making skills. While the group does not need to perform a cappella, it should involve at least some singers. The ensemble should be a pre-formed group in the early stages of their career, but with an established track record of performances. The bursary is intended to be used to develop the group’s work, with suitable projects including producing a recording or filmed content, subsidising a series of concerts, offering workshops or other outreach work, or researching and creating new programmes.

Bruegel Consort has found Stile Antico’s Ensemble Development Bursary and mentorship invaluable to the development of our ensemble over the last two years. The structure and support of the scheme has allowed us to be both creative and ambitious in our programming.

This is the third Ensemble Development Bursary offered by Stile Antico. The inaugural bursary was awarded to vocal ensemble Fount and Origin in 2019. During their time with Stile Antico, Fount and Origin recorded their first album for Delphian. The second recipients of the award in 2024 were five-voice ensemble The Bruegel Consort. The group has worked with Stile Antico developing four new programmes, giving seventeen public performances in the UK and the Netherlands, and also performing at private events put on by Stile Antico, raising the group’s profile and giving them a springboard to develop as a professional ensemble.
