early music vocal ensemble - stile antico

WillStile Antico's commitment to educational work was recognised in 2006 by a grant from the National Lottery, through Arts Council England, to support their work in Oxfordshire state schools. Since then their education programme has broadened steadily, and the group has led workshops with primary and secondary school pupils, with students at Southampton University and at Yale University.

quoteMade it easy to sing un-selfconsciously! Demonstrations were fantastic and history was v. interesting! (2006 Participant)

Our workshops give participants the chance to hear live performances of an often-unfamiliar repertoire, to explore its context, and to try singing it for themselves. We seek to complement the work of school and university music departments, illuminating the music through vivid historical presentation and discussion, and encouraging partipicants to explore it by themselves, guided by members of the group. By identifying and experimenting with the extraordinary range of possibilities open to the performer, participants gain a unique insight into the musical style.

quoteFun, friendly and imaginative. Fantastic demos and really enjoyable day. (2006 Participant)

Stile Antico's members have extensive teaching experience, and several hold postgraduate degrees in music or history. Our workshops are extremely flexible, ranging from an entirely practical session of singing to a lecture-recital, depending on the age group involved and the requirements of the organiser.
