Back on our travels!

3 October, 2013

It may be only five months since we finished our three-week April tour of the US and Canada, but on Saturday morning we’ll be heading back across the Atlantic, this time to broker a resolution to the government shut-down for a series of six concerts.  Once again we’ll do our best to bring you a daily blog (subject to wifi availability), and we’ll be posting news and reviews at our Facebook page and @stileantico Twitter feed.

In terms of miles covered, our October tour is a more modest affair than our last visit, confined as it is to the NE corner of the US. We’re nevertheless excited to visit several new venues – Poughkeepsie, NY and Malboro and St Johnsbury, VT – and to return to Pittsburgh’s wonderful Renaissance and Baroque series and the excellent Helen D. Schubert Concerts at Cleveland.  We finish our tour by making our third visit to the University of New Hampshire in Durham, and look forward to trying the patience (and the distinguished wine collection) of the inimitable Bill Kempster who oversees the brilliant UNH choral programme.

Since the distances we have to travel are rather smaller than in April, we will be spending a good deal of quality time with America’s roads.  We collect hire cars on our arrival in NYC, and return them in Pittsburgh, before the single internal flight of the trip up to Boston for our New Hampshire concert.  With plenty of willing drivers it will be nice to take things at our own pace, and perhaps stop to see some of the wonderful New England scenery along the way.  And travelling by car will be much more pleasant for Kate’s baby Danny, who joins us for the trip along with his dedicated staff, Emma’s partner Mike, who will look after him while we’re singing.  Something tells us Danny won’t be short of attention on this trip!

We’ll break up the packing tomorrow to introduce you to our newest programme, The Phoenix Rising, which will receive its first US outings on this visit.  But for now, here are the all-important concerts:

6th October, 3pm: Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY

8th October, 7pm: North Congregational Church, St Johnsbury, VT

9th October, 7pm: Persons Auditorium, Malboro College, VT

11th October, 7.30pm: St John’s Cathedral, Cleveland

12th October, 8pm: Calvary Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh

13th October, 7pm: Johnson Theatre, UNH, Durham, NH
