Laus Polyphoniae @ York
Stile Antico presents a streaming concert, filmed at York Minster, as part of AMUZ Antwerp’s Laus Polyphoniae festival. The Missa Sine Nomine, with its intricate canons, is believed to be have been written in tribute to – or at least in emulation of – Josquin’s teacher Ockeghem. In the Credo, Josquin alludes to his own memorial for Ockeghem, ‘Nymphes des bois’, which we place alongside it. We also include Ockeghem’s own ‘Alma redemptoris mater’, and two more memorial works – this time in honour of Josquin himself: Hieronmous Vinders’ ‘O mors inevitabilis’, and Jacquet de Mantua’s ‘Dum vastos Adriae fluctus’. Jacquet’s motet quotes no fewer than five of Josquin’s most celebrated works, one of which – the canonic ‘Inviolata, integra et casta es, Maria’ – is also included in our programme.
